Minecraft School by Marc Williams
Minecraft School is an initiative that promotes Minecraft Education for Computer Science and STEM learning in school curriculums from ages 7+.
Minecraft was created by Mojang in 2009 and purchased by Microsoft in 2014. Minecraft Education was released in 2016. Minecraft is the best selling video game of all time and is played by 170 million users. It is a fun to play 3D virtual reality game for authentic, collaborative & cognitive learning STEM experiences. The official Minecraft Education site education.minecraft.net.
In 2011, I integrated Minecraft into the Alfriston College Digital Technology curriculum. By 2014, we had pioneered the use of Minecraft for the Level 1 NCEA Computer Programming assessments using a custom created curriculum, a New Zealand first. For 10 years we used Minecraft for Computer Science and Computer Programming student learning.
My website is a overview of how we used Minecraft at Alfriston College, including students videos of their Minecraft computer programming project assessments, Te Reo coding and Minecraft Gallipoli for the Auckland Museum ANZAC exhibition 2015. This website also promotes the latest Minecraft Education Code.org and AI Computer Science learning resources. Schools or teachers who are considering integrating Minecraft Education into their school curriculum should refer to my teacher advice and TENZ presentations information and join the Minecraft Education Teacher Academy.
